- Abstract
- Mary Ann Ogden was born in New York City, the daughter of Henry Aaron and Katharine (Conklin) Ogden, and died in Connecticut, where she had moved after her husband’s death. She was an active benefactor of charities and hospitals. It is unknown when Mrs. Avery’s portrait was painted, but it may date from as early as 1867 when they were in Paris for the International Exposition. The French artist Jea n-Ernest Aubert was a student of the history painter Paul Delaroche and had a lucrative career painting academic-style genre scenes and portraits.
