Philo and Ellen Ruggles were the parents of Samuel Bulkley Ruggles (1800-1881) [Trustee, Columbia College], Philo Taylor Ruggles (1803-1894), and Henry Joseph Ruggles (1813-1906) [CC 1832]. The donor, Burnet Rathbone Ruggles, was the great-grandson of the sitter.
