- Abstract
- "The Suruga Bank of the Ōi River near Shimada" depicts the twenty-fourth station in the series "Famous Views of the Fifty-three Stations." Hiroshige shows travelers along the Tōkaidō, crossing, in dry weather, the shallow waters of the Ōi river near the post town of Shimada. Hiroshige's use of linear perspective arranges the composition and accentuates the sense of recession in space.
