Carnegie Library and Workingman's Club in Braddock, Pennsylvania, USA
- Title
- Carnegie Library and Workingman's Club in Braddock, Pennsylvania, USA
- Abstract
- Carnegie built the free libraries in Braddock (1895), Homestead (1896) and Duquesne (1901) to serve the employees of Carnegie Steel Company mills in those towns, and their families. In the beginning, the local steel mill would subsidize the libraries in Braddock and Homestead. In addition to the libraries, Braddock, Duquesne and Homestead institutions housed “Workingman's Clubs," with gymnasiums, bowling alleys, swimming pools, night school rooms, kindergartens, and assembly halls.
