Grossman recounts her upbringing; work as a teacher; and move to Exeter, New Hampshire, where she became involved with the Obama campaign's grassroots operation for the New Hampshire Democratic Party primary. She describes the strong community and relationships that developed around the campaign, and tells the story of the small group dinner with Obama that she was selected to attend after she made a small-dollar donation to the campaign. Also discussed are the connections between Grossman's political activation and experiences as a mother of young children during the Obama years; her son's diagnosis with autism and her activism on behalf of people with disabilities; her identification as a feminist; and Grossman's decision to run for a seat in the New Hampshire House of Representatives in 2018
