Alfred Gellhorn was the principal subject, but his wife Olga and brother Walter participated for a considerable amount of the interview. Topics discussed include: research on nitrogen mustard and treatment for shock, teaching activities, Columbia, 1943-1968; cancer research and treatment at Delafield Hospital, 1949-1968; Director, University of Pennsylvania Medical Center, 1968-1973; concerns as Di rector, Center for Biomedical Education, City College of New York, from 1974; controversy concerning ethnic distribution, "reverse discrimination" in admissions policies of biomedical program; related difficulties in program accreditation, funding, curriculum development; push for community medicine; work with Council of International Organizations of the Medical Sciences on bio-ethical issues, human rights, internationalization of drug research, development.
