Celia was born in Central Granma, Cuba in 1955. Her father was an agricultural worker and her mother a tailor. After finishing high school, she began working in a bodega. When her first daughter was born, she quit her job and began to work as a tailor . In 1993, during the Special Period, she joined the Tosca Hermanos cooperative as a cowgirl. Later, she became an administrator of the cooperative. Celia had three children. Celia was interviewed for the project that led to the book How Things Fall Apart. The name is a pseudonym for the project
Celia nació en Central Granma, Cuba, en 1955. Su padre era obrero agrícola y su madre, costurera. Tras finalizar sus estudios secundarios, comenzó a trabajar en una bodega. Al nacer su primera hija, renunció a su trabajo y comenzó a dedicarse a l a costura. En 1993, durante el Período Especial, se incorporó a la cooperativa Tosca Hermanos como vaquera.
