Visiting Nurse Service Campaign Fund; Paul D. Craveth
Following the announcement last night that $388,700 had been contributed toward the $1,000,000 fund sought for the Visiting Nurse Service of the Henry Street Settlement, Paul D. Cravath, Chairman of the Campaign Committee, told of the aims and needs o f the service. He gave statistics showing the need of extending the work of the visiting nurses and said that only 10 per cent of the sick in this city were cared for by hospitals. 'The visiting nurse service is not confined to the very poor,' said Mr. Cravath. 'It is used by thousands of persons of moderate means who cannot afford to pay for a trained nurse. 'In the upper east side section the Henry Street Settlement nurses have reduced the city's already low rate of mortality among babies under a month old. If the drive is a success we will be well on the road of having this wonderful reduction in infant mortality extended to every part and section of the city.'"
