It is unknown when Mrs. Avery’s portrait was painted, but it may date from as early as 1867 when they were in Paris for the International Exposition. The French artist Jean-Ernest Aubert was a student of the history painter Paul Delaroche and had a lucrative career painting academic-style genre scenes and portraits.</dc:description></oai_dc:dc>
