- L. S. Alexander Gumby (1885-1961) was an African-American archivist, historian, collector, and owner of the Gumby Book Studio in Harlem, N.Y. He began collecting materials in 1901 and gave his extensive collection of scrapbooks to Columbia University Libraries in 1950, naming it the L.S. Alexander Gumby Collection of Negroiana. He continued to organize and add to the collection until his death in 1961.
