Carmen recalls her first marriage and the birth of her children. Finally, Carmen recounts the attack on one of her sons in a d iscotheque.

Carmen was born on April 26, 1944 in Jaruco, Cuba. When she was ten years old, her parents died. Carmen was employed as a domestic worker until she was seventeen, when she began working as a tailor in a textile workshop called Tropical. After nineteen years in that position, she moved to Havana, where she continued working as a tailor in the Playa Girón Company. Carmen was decorated National Vanguard on several occasions. Because of these decorations, Carmen was rewarded with visits to the Soviet Union (1986 and 1988), Czechoslovakia and Germany (1990). After her retirement in 1994, she decided to set up a coffee shop in her home. Carmen married twice and had four children. Carmen was interviewed for the project that led to the book How Things Fall Apart. The name is a pseudonym for the project
Carmen nació el 26 de abril de 1944 en Jaruco, Cuba. Cuando tenía diez años, fallecieron sus padres. Carmen fue empleada como trabajadora doméstica hasta sus diecisiete años, cuando ingresó a trabajar como costurera en un taller textil llamado T ropical. Tras diecinueve años en ese puesto, se mudó a La Habana, donde continuó trabajando como costurera en la empresa Playa Girón. Carmen fue condecorada Vanguardia Nacional en varias oportunidades. A partir de esas condecoraciones, Carmen fue premiada con visitas a la Unión Soviética (1986 y 1988), Checoslovaquia y Alemania (1990). Tras su jubilación en 1994, decidió montar una cafetería en su casa. Carmen se casó en dos oportunidades y tuvo cuatro hijos.
