Abstract
In this print, Hiroshige depicts the Nihonbashi bridge when travelers cross it hastily in search for shelter from the sudden rain. The artist also shows the Edo castle in the middle ground and Mount Fuji in the background. The characters on the umbrella of one of the foreground figures function both as decorative pattern and as information about the print, as they convey the name and the seal of th e publisher.
