He traveled extensively, and came to the conclusion that the overseas scientists suffered from isolation, being cut off from their US and Canadian colleagues by the war and travel expenses. He then revived the program of travel grants on a much broader scale. This is the first volume in a five-volume log of his 1947 trip.
