Abstract
This whole-length portrait depicts King George III standing, facing forward, his face seen in three-quarters looking to the left. He wears a Field-Marshal's uniform with a red coat and Star of the Garter, white breeches, black boots, and black bicorn hat. His right hand holds a cane and in his left hand he holds gloves. He stands in a landscape with Windsor Castle in the distance on the left side o f the painting.

This portrait of King George III is one of a number produced by William Beechey and his studio depicting the king in whole-length and three-quarter-length views with various backgrounds. The original was painted and exhibited by Beechey at the Royal A cademy in 1800; it is now in the Royal Collection. A variant with Hatfield House in the background was presented by the king to the Marquess of Salisbury in 1800. The 1931 auction catalogue by American Art Association incorrectly describes Columbia's painting as depicting the king as the Prince of Wales and misidentifying the building in the background as Hatfield House.
