Yohanca begins the interview by describing the desire she had as a child to have genital reconstruction and identify as male. Yohanca comments on the insults she was called as a child. She then recalls the moment she told her family that she was a lesbian and the support she received from them. Yohanca recalls her studies and her first jobs. Yohanca reflects on the social changes in favor of homose xuals that took place in Cuba. She recalls the Mariel Exodus, the Special Period, and the humiliation of those who emigrated from the country. Yohanca compares life in Santiago with life in Havana. Yohanca was born in Santiago de Cuba in 1961. She studied Biology but abandoned her studies to get married. She had a daughter with her husband and divorced a few months later. She worked in the Geology Company. She studied to become an X-ray and imag ing technician. Since then, she has worked in various hospitals in Santiago. Yohanca is a lesbian. Yohanca was interviewed for the project that led to the book How Things Fall Apart. The name is a pseudonym for the project
Yohanca nació en Santiago de Cuba en 1961. Estudió Licenciatura en Biología, carrera que abandonó para casarse. Con su marido tuvo una hija y se divorció unos meses más tarde. Trabajó en la Empresa de Geología. Estudió para ser técnica de ra yos X e imagenología. Desde entonces, trabajó en diversos hospitales de Santiago. Yohanca es lesbiana. Yohanca fue entrevistada para el proyecto que culminó en la publicación del libro How Things Fall Apart. El nombre es un seudónimo para el proyecto
