Abstract
Paulette Aniskoff discusses her public service during the presidency of Barack Obama, including her work as a field director for the Obama 2008 campaign, in the Office of Presidential Personnel, at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and as director of the White House Office of Public Engagement (OPE). Aniskoff describes her management of the White House's relationships with advocacy an d interest groups during her Directorship of OPE, providing details about OPE's Affordable Care Act enrollment campaign, presidential meetings with advocates, and OPE's work in support of gun control executive action. Also discussed are the hiring of campaign staff into federal positions, FEMA's "Whole Community" approach to disaster relief, and the cultural differences between the first and second presidential terms, with particular emphasis on the changed role of women in the White House

Paulette Aniskoff was deputy assistant to the president and director of the Office of Public Engagement in the Obama administration. Before that, she served in the White House Office of Presidential Personnel and as director of the Individual and Comm unity Preparedness Division at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). She also worked on the 2008 campaign and, after the administration, served as President Obama's political director through the 2018 midterms. She launched Citizen 44 LLC in early 2017, which oversees President Obama's engagement with political and progressive organizations and major supporters around the country to support his legacy
