Javier was born on November 10, 1939 in Brazo Escondido, Cuba. He was the second of sixteen children. He lived in different towns until he settled in Sevilla, Cuba, where he built his own house in the mountains. Javier had two children. He was married twice. Despite the fact that the Revolution gave him the opportunity to become literate, he did not finish his primary studies. While living in Sevilla, he worked for a state irrigation company. Later, he was a farmer on his own ranch. Javier was interviewed for the project that led to the book How Things Fall Apart. The name is a pseudonym for the project
Javier nació el 10 de noviembre de 1939 en Brazo Escondido, Cuba. Fue el segundo de dieciséis hijos. Vivió en diferentes pueblos hasta que se asentó en Sevilla, Cuba, donde construyó su propia casa en las sierras. Tuvo dos hijos y contrajo dos ve ces matrimonio.
