Abstract
In the first session, Marlene McHugh describes her background and formal training in pain medicine and palliative care. She compares the health systems in Philadelphia versus New York City, and how she was struck by the lack of primary or preventative care in Philadelphia. McHugh also talks about the dynamics of family and care in the hospital setting. McHugh's second session takes place in Februar y of 2021, shortly after she received the Pfizer-COVID-19 vaccine. and She reflects on many frontline workers' reluctance to receive the vaccine, especially among Black and Latinx nurses

Marlene McHugh is a nurse practitioner in oncology and critical care with formal fellowship training in pain medicine and palliative care. Prior to this, Marlene worked as a staff nurse. She received her Master's at Columbia and was a student nurse in Philadelphia during the AIDS epidemic
