- Abstract
- Jay is glad, so soon after his appointment to office, to begin a correspondence with a gentleman who is favorable to the rights of man and a friend of the United States. Jay is certain that the enclosed Act of Congress dated 10 December 1778 will meet with Gerard's approval, and will have salutary consequences. Jay will do all in his power to promote harmony between France and the United States. Le tterbook copy. In Jay's hand.
