Abstract
Has received John Jay's letter requesting that his resignation as president of the American Bible Society be communicated to the Board of Managers. Has shown the letter to certain gentlemen in confidence, who unite in requesting that Jay withdraw his letter and continue in name as head of the Society. At the time of his appointment the Board were fully advised of his advanced years and declining he alth, and were also well informed of his pious example and influence. His resignation at this time particularly may have a bad effect on the interests of the cause, and the selection of a successor presents many difficulties. Hopes he will return an answer favorable to their wishes.
