Title:
Document, 1815 March 17
Abstract:
Asks his opinion in consequence of the letter to him from Evert Van Alen subjoined (not included in copy). Is dissatisfied that Van Alen did not prevent the sale of the most valuable part of his property. Before he advances the money for redeeming the land, wishes to know John Jay's opinion as to the value of the property to an alien and non-resident. Is not disinclined to share in a tax for the improvement of the estate, but would like to know if it is actually being improved and whether if the property is ultimately sold it would be advantageous to now redeem the portion in question.
