Papers relating to the case of John Rapalje v. Jeremiah Brower, filed in
the New York Supreme Court at various dates in 1775. John Tabor Kempe was the attorney
for Rapalje and Jay represented Brown. The Plea was one of trespass in the New York
Supreme Court and 200 pounds damages sought. On April 1, 1773 and at other times Brown
entered Rapalje's salt meadow and dug it up and carted away 1000 cart loads of ground,
leaving the two acres totally spoiled. This tract was commonly called Blauws Meadow,
Bruycklin. It was necessary for the jury to have a view of the meadow in question. Trial
set for September 20, 1775 and then countermanded.
