Abstract
Letter signed in the hand of Robert R. Harrison. Acknowledges receipt of Jay's letter of 9 July. Encloses extract of letters of 10 July from Governor Trumbull and from General Parsons; Sir George Collier's and Major General Tryon's address to inhabitants of Connecticut; and extract of letter of General Parsons describing destruction of Norwalk. (Enclosures not present.) Letter of 12 July from Gener al Heath informs Washington that British have burned Bedford. Washington thinks it is practical to retaliate by taking some enemy-held towns. Asks for money to pay gratuities to his soldiers.
