Abstract: Acknowledges receipt of 13 July and the copies of letters enclosed. Washington does not think that the plans of the British cabinet mentioned by [Arthur] Lee and [Joshua] Johnson will ever be carried out. The enemy appears to have moved up the Sound instead. But if it appears that the plan will be pursued, Washington will do his utmost to defeat it. In hand of Richard Kidder Meade.
