- Abstract
- The British have forced the surrender of Verplanck's Point on the east side of the Hudson. After advancing toward Nelson's Point opposite Fort Arnold, they returned again to Verplanck's Point. Part of the British fleet went down river toward Tappan Bay, while the rest, consisting of 150 flat bottomed boats and 70 sailboats kept their station. Enemy troops on the west side of the Hudson fortified St ony Point. Washington finds British conduct very puzzling, and cannot determine the real object of the enemy. American posts in the Highlands, however, are both important and vulnerable. Washington will do his best to secure them. In hand of Robert Hanson Harrison.
