[Document, 1779 March 28]
Abstract
Transmits two of Rivington's papers. Although these newspaper accounts are highly colored, there is no doubt that the Americans suffered greatly in the action of 4 March at Briar Creek Georgia. Since 26 March, Washington has had no further information about Sir Henry Clinton and the movement of enemy vessels on the sound. Enclosures: 24 March 1779, The Royalist Gazette; 25 March 1779, The Royalist Gazette. Fitzpatrick, Washington XIV, 302.
