Abstract
Cool attitude of Spain toward U.S. is to spur U.S. into agreeing with Gardoqui. After a 2 1/2 hour wait, Carmichael was admitted to see Floridablanca and he then proceeded to represent the claim of Mr. Plunket for injuries received at the hands of the Spanish. After a short while Floridablanca interrupted, informing Carmichael that Spain only wished from the U.S. the treatment she had given. In del aying negotiations with Gardoqui the U.S. was not reciprocating Spain's good intentions. The Count further stated that he had recently heard additional news of America's ill will toward Spain. As he would elaborate no further and terminated the interview, Carmichael inquired of Otamende, who informed him that this probably concerned Kentucky.
