Abstract
Coded letter. Had believed that loan in Holland would cover all American bills at present and distressed to hear it will not. Comments on lack of wisdom, money, credit and talent at the Spanish court. Concurs with Franklin on the contents of his memoir; however, the French ambassador disapproves and thinks it unwise to disregard his opinion. Has not yet heard anything from the Marquis de Lafayette.
