Abstract
The treaty will be ratified, and this will be announced today to Hammond the British minister. Suggests to Jay the advisability of the President now making a public declaration of the course of his administration and the sentiments of patriotism by which he is guided. This would add to his own credit, and to the credit of the patriots who have supported him. Postscript, omitted by Johnston and Will iam Jay, indicates that Pickering wishes these sentiments to be communicated only to Hamilton and Rufus King.
