- Could do nothing to aid Oliver Pollock or his family in their present
distress because of an act of Congress. Will ask Congress to make some new provision for
such cases. Has sent Carmichael information on such cases in Havana. Thinks he will have
some influence with the Spanish court, but Spain does not seem sympathetic to some
cases.
