Abstract
Birth of Kitt (Livingston) Ridley's daughter. Feels that additional amendments to the Constitution essential or the matter" will not end calmly". Hopes that Essex (Ridley) and Peter (Jay) will form a friendship. Reflects on world situation: "The Turks and Austrians are now upon the Stage--this is really notable Acting--but the Audience pay very dear f or the Spectacle--Perhaps this lopping off two or three hundred thousand souls now and then in spots and corners of the World may be necessary.... "As for French situation, formed no very high opinion of the Court when in France and hopes that "an American Spark" may ignite the "Tinder of that Country." Suggests that, by now, Lafayette must be busy as "one Bee." Looks forward to the "daring Enterprise." Alarmed at John Jay's involvement in the recent riot. Congratulates him on safe escape.
