Abstract:
John Jay explains that his position is "delicate and responsible, not only with Respect to "himself", but to those who placed "him in it.-" Asks, therefore that Grenville and he come to a speedy conclusion. Since length of voyages to Philadelphia and New York average about six and seven weeks and Congress meets the first Monday of November--when President is anxious to include in his speech "something satisfactory and decisive" concerning negotiations--Grenville will understand John Jay's desire for speed in reaching conclusion to talks.
