- Abstract
- Letter signed version of document 10309. Has received John Jay's letter informing him of Tarleton's defeat. No news concerning engagement between British and French naval squadrons, except that given by English-- it took place off the capes of Virginia. Adams appointed Minister Plenipotentiary to the Netherlands, but has not presented his credentials yet. Has paid bill of exchange presented by Schw eighauser, which John Jay had refused to pay for lack of Laurens's signature. This will now be difficult to obtain, so Franklin pays bill as all seems in order.
