- Abstract
- Jay encloses some letters to Carmichael on the subject of the imprisonment of a Jonas Hartwell of Massachusetts who had been living in Spain for a long time and had been imprisoned by the inquisition for making some critical comments about the Catholic religion. Jay wants William Carmichael to investigate to see if he can have Hartwell brought to trial for the crime he is charged with.
