Document, 1798 May 06
Abstract:
Government House has been emptied and Peter is now living at Mrs. West's. Pope's House remains vacant. At a recent meeting of the Society for free Debate there was so much noise and confusion that though many respectable people were present, no one was heard. The Federalists, however, had the majority and the meeting was eventually dissolved. Last evening in a meeting of "Young Men" Peter was selected as one of a Committee to draft an address to the President. The Antifederalists present were prudently silent, and "every Symptom was exhibited of ardent Attachment to the Government and violent Hatred to France and our Democrats."
