- Abstract
- He is pleased with the short stay that Frederick proposes to make at Philadelphia. Happy to hear of his (John Jay's) son's progress, and that the family is well. A crossed out portion of the draft refers to "our Knight of the order of sisiphus" (Sir James Jay). John Jay says he is not surprised at his actions in Philadelphia, and hopes that he may succeed in his usual efforts to roll stones up hill . Wants family to keep up their spirits--for they will again be happy together, perhaps even in this world. A crossed out portion of draft refers to a chest of John Jay's law books, which he requests Frederick to give to Mr. John Sloss Hobart against Hobart's receipt for them. A trunk sent from Bordeaux with some gifts for the servants was lost; please tell them how much he regrets this.
