Abstract
Littlepage arrived and then left for Warsaw. Regrets it is possible for any one individual to malign a faithful public servant, and require him to defend himself against presumptions of guilt. A passage deleted, probably by a later hand, states Jefferson's feeling that such attacks are preferable to limiting the freedom of the press, and that they are part of the burden of public office holding.
