- Received Jay's, enclosing Holt's papers of 28th July. Is grateful that Jay has taken measures to lift the disgrace of having ordered the retreat. Intends to send extracts of all his orders relative to Ticonderoga and an account of the measures he took beginning with last November. Need for an all-out war effort; need for Eastern states' troops.
