- Wrote previously to request that he might carry the preliminaries of peace
to Congress. The ship on which he will sail is ready to leave. Even if he is entrusted
with no public papers, he still requests that Jay will furnish them with such
certificates as may permit them to depart immediately under the advantages of
peace.
