- Abstract
- Welcomes him back from a most difficult mission. Introduces his son, who is to tour the U.S. and then go to Europe to study the government and manners of the people. Thus the young man's character will be built, and he will not be a "mere something". If Jay does not bring Mrs. Jay on the next southern circuit, Mrs. Rutledge threatens to beat him at back gammon.
