Abstract
Last night Kaunitz sent a courier to Vienna with the news that Spain has accepted Austria's proffered mediation. If this news is true it will procrastinate the negotiation and possibly oblige Jay to remove to another quarter. Says that the Ambassador and the Chevalier (no names given) are very distressed not to have heard from Jay yet although they know he has arrived at Paris. Jay should be gettin g a good reception in Paris, from what he has heard here. Says that if he has any interest with Jay, "I beg its influence in favor of Dr. Bancroft." Wants to know if he should sell Jay's mules and whether Jay will be gone for a longer while than he anticipated. If so the Saxon minister might be interested in renting his house.
