Abstract
On May 23 he saw Floridablanca and gave him the copy of Carmichael's letter of credence from Congress after Floridablanca had seen the original. Floridablanca has been very cordial and has agreed to go over the problems in Spanish-American relations and write up the orders he had already given for their settlement. He has encouraged Carmichael to come and see him during his office hours twice a wee k, when they could discuss anything on Carmichael's mind. He then invited Carmichael to see him on Saturdays too, and even invited him to dinner the following Saturday. Carmichael did not accept the invitation until the French ambassador urged him very strongly not to refuse. He did go and was treated with marked cordiality and respect by Floridablanca. He was also well treated by the Danish representative. Relates preparations for Gibraltar expedition; accounts with Cabarrus not yet completed.
