Misdated 30 "October" by Benson. Reports Washington's operations against
Cornwallis. The new legislature will meet next Monday and will elect new delegates.
There will probably be a change in delegates as the inhabitants of that part of the
state which is not in the hands of England are disturbed that the state is represented
wholly by "refugees." If Livingston accepts the appointment as Minister for Foreign
Affairs, the Chancellorship will probably be offered to Mr. Duane. Mrs. Frederick Jay
has gone to New York to visit friends. Unfortunately, she went by way of New Jersey and
did not secure the Governor's permission. There will be difficulty when she returns
because this is the route taken by those persons dealt with by the Commissioners for
conspiracies.
