- Title
- [Document, 1783 September 01]
- Abstract
- Since he last wrote on 23 August he has seen all the members of the royal family. He is sorry that Jay's ideas and his own do not coincide on the nature of Carmichael's duties, but he maintains that he cannot leave his post unless his constituents instruct him to do so. He would very much like to follow a line of conduct which would correspond to Jay's desire and Carmichael's ideas of propriety at one and the same time.
