- Abstract
- Acknowledges receipt of 26, 29, and 30 August. Washington cannot reply to Congress concerning the prisoners because the Commissary of Prisoners is absent from the camp. However, there are probably no real grounds for Major General Philipses complaint. Washington is happy to receive the resolution of Congress of 27 August which approved his plans for t he expedition against the Indians. He hopes that the number of troops which arrived with Admiral Arbuthnot, reported in Arthur Lees letter of 26 April [to John Jay or to Congress] is an overestimation. Washington encloses an extract from a letter of 20 August from General Sullivan containing the most recent intelligence from that. ???? in hand of Richard Kidder Meade.
