Abstract
Sorry that Jay's letter asking for Commissioners to deal with the Six Nations, did not arrive before the adjournment of the Senate. He has suggested to the President the expediency of an informal appointment; the President having approved, he will write to Mr. Smith at Trenton concerning his acceptance of the mission. New York should make arrangements for their agents to be present at the negotiations.
