- Abstract
- Prospects brighter. Believes that compensation cases will be referred to board of commissioners appointed by two governments. Admission of American vessels to islands being considered as is treaty of commerce. Thinks they will ask that British debts be "repaired" by U.S. by commission decision. The king remarked to John Jay," Well, sir, I imagine you begin to see that your mission will probably be successful--" John Jay much gratified my remark. Will address letter to Washington rather than Randolph as feels that it will have better chance of delivery if ship captured by belligerent forces.
