Same as NNC: 8462. This letter is a manuscript copy. However it would appear that it was copied from the letter printed in William Jay, The Life of John Jay, vol. I, 392. Agrees with his decision on Pickman. The majority party in House of Representatives is digging its political grave. Hopes Washington will remain steadfast in his program and continue in office until calmer times make his retiremen t less detrimental to nation. Commends Washington's reply to the call for papers (regarding the Jay treaty).
