June 1780, Floridablanca 20 June 1780 Jay to Floridablanca 22 June 1780 (10) Jay to Sir
John Dalrymple-"Anecdote Historique"-incomplete. Yranda refused to give Jay a part of
the money--he would transmit only the whole sum. The remittances from Congress have not
yet arrived. Encloses papers which will show the state of affairs in Spain. Jay has been
permitted to accept bills to the amount of between 10 and 12 thousand dollars. As the
Court seems favorable to the United States, Jay hopes that the unpleasant measure will
terminate well. Jay cannot afford Mr. Ross the aid mentioned in Franklin's letter. He
must request further credit in order to pay his and Carmichael's salary. Count Montmorin
knows about the enclosed papers. Franklin's Danish correspondent was very civil and very
much embarrassed. This indicates more caution in the future. Cautions Franklin to be
very careful in his mode of sending mail.</dc:description></oai_dc:dc>
