- Abstract
- Acknowledges the receipt of Jay's letter of the 31st March, with a resolution of Congress of the 21st March. Will obey the spirit of the resolution. The course of his Danish Majesty has produced a more liberal decision in England in conferring holy orders. The French court opines Congress should send a Consul with full powers. Receipt of various commu nications from John Jay. Ministers write monthly, but possess no certain evidence of their letters being received. Visits of English gentlemen; their conversation. Will be received in all respects as other foreign Ministers. It does not follow they will do what their honor and public faith require, either with respect to the posts, Negroes or debtors. Can ascertain nothing until publicly acknowledged. P.S. Informed by Sir Clement C. Dormer that an audience will be granted on Wed.
